Stanford Music Festival
We were delighted to be invited to open the Stanford Music Festival this
year. It really was a great event and the band would have been happy to play all day. With a mere 45 minutes to play we cracked on through the songs with minimal (if any) chat.
Having gone first, it meant we had the rest of the day to sit back and enjoy the music in the July sun. Feeling like pro’s with our back stage BBQ the band performed with style, despite a mid-song mic disaster. Dancing Dave and a few likely lads who had obviously enjoyed a little too much sauce for that time of the day helped in creating a great atmosphere despite it being the start of the Festival.
Canewdon Cricket Club Party
The band were buzzing by the end of this gig and even Dan found his voice. Dancing from the outset and a brilliant atmosphere led to one of our most enjoyable gigs of the summer. Ang expressed her secret passion for baking bread and our 10 year old groupies didn’t sit down all night - a few sore heads from the crowd in the morning,
I’m not sure the local derby the following day would have been a particularly enjoyable game for some! A long way to go but certainly worth the trip. |

Clacton Railway Gig
The Late shift were invited back to Clacton after a successful New Year’s Eve gig at the turn of the year. A testing set up with Dan forgetting the power leads, but professional to the end we begged and borrowed until we were powered up and ready to go in plenty of time. A great audience enjoyed the evening, particularly some of our older music. The Kebab shop was closed but this didn’t stop us having a great time and we’re all looking forward to going back again soon. |

The London marathon
The Late Shift returned to the Stage outside the Mint pub in East Smithfield for this marathon session on a lovely sunny day.
Each year the London marathon erect a stage for the band to entertain the crowds and runners. Its a full day for the band but its much enjoyed by everyone and is an appreciated lift for the runners. Whilst on that subject; Elevation lifts supplied The Late Shift with a sparkling new Marquee for the occasion. Mick, one of the Directors of the company was there to present us with it and to enjoy the occasion with his wife and family.
Phil, was unfortunately stuck in California, on his way back from New Zealand, due to the volcanic ash cloud, so Martin, a good friend of Colin and an ex Paragon guitarist was on hand to help out the band.
This year Colin's son Scott's band: Le Vens featured for a lunchtime guest spot and were very much appreciated by everyone.

The band hope to return again in 2011. More pictures of this event can be found at the band's picsite.

The Old Hall Tavern - Chingford
February took us to the Old Hall Tavern pub in Chingford. This huge pub had a raised area which doubled as a massive stage for the band.Despite a golf society turning up 2 hours late and having their presentation, at the same time the band were setting up, the band still managed to get ready in time. A new audience for the band resulted in a repeat booking and a happy guvnor, Shane.
We shall be returning in 2010. |

The British Legion - Collier row
January 2010 signalled the return of a gig at The British Legion in Collier Row, Romford.
Colin performed his first ever Late Shift gig here back in 2004. This time around Steve was performing his debut with The Late Shift gig on keyboards. No one would have known as he did a fantastic job.
Ang, who is a local to the venue, had invited practically the whole Town to the gig and the venue were not prepared for the amount of people. Ten deep at the bar meant people from the audience resorted to serving drinks and the Silver suited entertainments compare was in his element. The guy taking the money in the entrance booth was working overtime and enjoyed insisting the band removed their carp from his cardboard box.
Ang had remembered that the national anthem had to be played at the end of the night so a quick search for it and "God save the queen" was blasting out through the PA. |
